IMPORTANT UPDATE

You probably know that Kodak has filed for Chapter 11, which is the last chance a company has to recover before filing for bankruptcy. In the last days (I’m writing on the 18 of February 2012) I came to know that Kodak wants to give up the production of cameras to concentrate only on printers. Therefore, despite the EasyShare C123 being the best camera for this price, my advice is to not buy it. I looking for another camera (or maybe a couple) that gives similar performances for a similar price to replace this. In any case, I leave the review of this camera as I wrote it six months ago so you can make your evaluations.

Kodak C123

The cheapest camera of my selection is also the number one best seller at Amazon and has received four star from the users. Don’t expect amazing performances from this camera, but it does its job: taking photos in every condition. It is a low budget camera with underwater capabilities, so it’s the perfect choice if you are planning a vacation at the sea and want to take some nice photos while snorkeling but want to use it also back home.
This camera has two very weak points:

  1. The colors of the display/viewfinder are flat, and it sometimes lags while rendering the scene in front of it.
  2. The battery life is exceptionally poor. The camera doesn’t have a rechargeable battery inside, to keep the price low I suppose, and works with two AA batteries. I suggest you to buy rechargeable batteries.

Overall, users are very happy about this camera and they have what they expect for this price: a tough camera with decent performance.
Kodak claims it’s “Waterproof, dustproof, and worry proof”. It can take also VGA quality videos. A lot, for less than $80.
